What We Do

The Kansas Chamber continuously leads efforts to pass pro-business legislation by drafting language, building coalitions, testifying on each bill, engaging in direct lobbying and ultimately ensuring passage. 

Below are some highlights of the recent Kansas Chamber wins in the Statehouse.

• Reduced individual income taxes from a top rate of 6.45% to 4.9% and the bottom rate, which everyone pays on the first $30,000 of income, from 3.5% to 3%
• Led coalition to overhaul work comp system for the first time in nearly 20 years.
• Passed expensing of capital investments.  Kansas is the only state in the nation allowing this.
• Passed the Promoting Employment Across Kansas Act (PEAK).  Employers moving jobs to Kansas get to keep a portion of their employee withholdings over a number of years for creating high-wage jobs.
• Phased out the franchise tax over three years.
• Repealed the business machinery & equipment property tax.
• Phased out estate tax over five years.
