January 6, 2016

TOPEKA, KAN. (January 5, 2016) - The Kansas Chamber is pleased to announce Spirit AeroSystems of Wichita as the 2016 Ad Astra award winner.

"Spirit AeroSystems is one of the world's largest independent producers of commercial aerostructures. They continuously share their success with the community and are truly one of Kansas' homegrown companies. We are proud to give the Ad Astra award to a company of such a caliber as theirs," said Kansas Chamber President and CEO Mike O'Neal.

The history of Spirit AeroSystems dates back to 1927, when aviation pioneer Lloyd Stearman moved his factory, Stearman Aircraft Company, from California to Wichita, Kansas. Today Spirit AeroSystems operate sites in the U.S., U.K., France and Malaysia. Nearly nine decades of expertise in the design and manufacturing of flight technology form the foundation of Spirit's vast present-day capabilities. With a highly skilled workforce and industry-leading, cost-saving technologies, Spirit AeroSystems is the partner of choice for designing, building and sustaining the world's premier aircraft.
