Leadership Kansas Class Visits the Topeka Area October 26-28


TOPEKA, KAN. (October 25, 2011) – The Topeka area will play host to the 2011 Leadership Kansas class on October 26-28. 

The members of the class will begin their session in Topeka with a reception at the Governor’s mansion.  The Kansas Air Guard will host the class at a refueling mission, and the class will also tour both Reser’s and Hill’s Pet Nutrition Center.   Discussions with experts on Kansas’ tax and immigration policies, the Kansas Supreme Court system, the state’s legislative process and the Kansas budget will be held while in Topeka.  To conclude the Topeka training session, the class will hear from keynote speaker Retired Brigadier General Debora Rose. 

The Topeka session also marks the end of the 2011 Program year. A graduation ceremony is scheduled at the Topeka Country Club on October 28th, where the 38 members of the 2011 Program will enjoy a speech on leadership from US Senator Jerry Moran (a 1984 LK graduate).

Over the course of the six-month regional meetings, the class will engage in discussions with top experts on the key issues facing Kansas.  Topeka is the fifth of the six communities to host the 2011 Leadership Kansas class.  Other locations include Garden City, the Kansas City Metro area, the Colby/Goodland area, Wichita and Pittsburg.  

Leadership Kansas is one of the oldest and most prestigious statewide leadership programs in the country.  Established by the Kansas Chamber in 1979, the program is celebrating its 33rd year of educating and motivating Kansas leaders from all four corners of the state.  The Leadership Kansas program remains committed to its original mission to inspire persons to maintain involvement in the social, business and political fabric of our Kansas communities.
