24 Jan Kansas Chamber Announces 2024 Annual Dinner Keynote Speaker and Presenting Sponsor
The Kansas Chamber on Monday announced that former United States Attorney General William Barr will be the keynote speaker of the statewide advocacy organization’s 2024 Annual Dinner on April 29th at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka.
“The Kansas Chamber and its members are honored to have Attorney General Barr as its keynote speaker for this year’s dinner,” said the Chamber’s President and CEO Alan Cobb. “Mr. Barr’s service in government and work in the private sector gives him an understanding of the impact burdensome and unnecessary regulations and mandates have on our country’s businesses.”
Barr served as the country’s 77th attorney general (1991 – 1993) under President George H. W. Bush and as 85th attorney general (2019 – 2020) under President Donald Trump. He is only the second person to serve twice as the U.S. Attorney General.
From 1994 to 2000, Barr served as executive vice president and general counsel for GTE Corporation. He then served as executive vice president and general counsel of Verizon from 2000 to 2008. At both GTE and Verizon, Barr led the legal, regulatory, and government affairs activities of the companies.
After retiring from Verizon, Barr advised major corporations on government enforcement matters, as well as regulatory litigation. Barr served as counsel at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in 2009 and rejoined the firm in 2017.
Barr currently serves as Chairman of the advisory board of the Center for Legal Action (CLA), part of the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (AMFree). The CLA fights against the excessive expansion of federal regulations and mandates that only raise costs and eliminate jobs while restricting basic freedoms of individuals and businesses.
